For me it is the process of learning all you need to know to pass the tests for the captain's licences that was important. I am not sure that I will use the license to actually earn money, but all of the studying to get the license was well worth the effort. The MMC is just a little jump start to the experience I will gain once I actually start the loop. Having learned the rules of the road, plotting, charting, and other navigational skills well enough to actually pass the tests for each of those areas will allow for a better learning curve.
I am getting closer to being ready to purchase the boat for the loop. I have run into a couple of road blocks (more work on the house than I planned and my dad broke his hip). Come June I should be ready to sell my "extra" house and get going. Stay tuned.
