Carol at the wheel |
We got to roll the newly re-stitched head sail almost as soon as we turned out of the marina. The wind was blowing 10 to 12 for most of the journey today. We took turns at the helm and I got to play Woman Behind the Wheel for Carol when she was at the helm. After I got Carol and Steve comfortable behind the wheel, I was tempted to go take a nap.
We planned to stay the night in Perdido Key, FL and then the next day we would push on to Mobile. We made such good time, we decided to push on another 16 miles (2 hours) to Lulu’s Homeport Marina. We had a great meal at Lulu’s. But the outside bar wasn’t open, so we didn’t get the full experience.
I guess Steve and Carol do not have bad Juju after all. The weather has been good for our trip so far, but tomorrow is another day.
As soon as we get to Mobile and get Lesson plan tied up in her slip, we have to head back to Niceville (a 2- hour trip by car, 2 days by boat) because Carol and Steve haven’t broken the working habit and their employers are expecting them on Monday morning.
We made it to Lulu's |
So, Lesson Plan will be left all alone for 6 weeks or so until I return to take her to New Orleans. I think seeing New Orleans by boat will be a great adventure. Anyone want to ride along to the Big Easy? We might even go to Houston, it’s only a few inches further on the chart.
Around Memorial Day, we (Lesson Plan and whatever crew I can recruit) will be heading up the rivers, (to KY Lake, not Sing Sing). Lesson Plan will spend Hurricane season in the nice safe confines of KY Lake.
Lesson Learned: Stay flexible. We would have never made it Gulf Shores (Lulu's Homeport Marina), if we had not been flexible with our plans.
Under sail again |
Arriving at Lulu's |
