As Ricky would say “you got some explaining to do”. I was looking at my early posts with my sister
in-law the other day and saw that in one of those posts that we rejected a Hunter 33
because it felt a little claustrophobic. But then we went a bought a Hunter 33. Well let me explain. In the late 80’s or early 90’s Hunter started
a series of changes to the 33. Those
changes included the walk-thru transom, widening the beam a little over a foot,
and carrying the wider beam further back.
The remodeled 33 is very roomy for a 33’ boat. The wider beam allows for a salon layout is
much more cruiser friendly than the older 33.
The difference in the older Hunter and the newer Catalina we looked at
back in 2013 was the wider beam which was not really highlighted in that
post. Hunter and Catalina both do a
great job with making the most of interior space. Since my first boat was a Catalina, it was
hard to get myself converted the Hunter camp.
But I really like the Hunter arch which allows all lines to run to the
back of the cockpit. I believe the
Hunter 33 is the best option for single handed sailing among the 32’ to 35’
boats, at least the ones in our price range.
