So what are you going to do after you retire?

I love it when I get this question.  Since I am relatively young to be retiring, most people ask expecting to hear where I am going to work next.  When I launch into a story about how you can take a boat from KY Lake down to Mobile and then around FL, up the east coast to the Erie Canal, through the Great Lakes...... and .......  Well you can imagine the mixed reactions.
Some can't believe I am not going to chase more dollars (a.k.a. get another job).  I am amazed at the number of people who fear retirement. Do they not have any other interest or is their current work the only way they feel valued? Either way I feel sorry for them.
Others talk about how difficult it will be. I explain to them that there are a lot of people "doing the loop", so it's not like the Lewis and Clarke expedition.
And others are encouraging and express interest in joining me along the way.  We are going to have a great time.
As Mark Twain said "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
